What Causes Your Teeth to Become Discoloured?
Teeth tend to become naturally discoloured, but exposure to strong-coloured foods and beverages can prematurely stain the teeth.
Common Foods & Beverages That Can Stain the Teeth
Several types of food and drinks can prematurely stain the teeth. These include:
- Beetroot
- Curry
- Soy sauce
- Wine
- Concentrated berry juices
- Colas
- Teas
How To Minimize Staining
You can help to minimize the staining of your teeth by rinsing your mouth with water after consuming any of these foods and beverages. We also recommend brushing your teeth twice daily to prevent stains from permanently discolouring your teeth.

Zoom!® Whitening Treatments
Zoom Whitening is our popular teeth whitening Lonsdale Quay in-house treatment that uses proprietary technology to whiten teeth up to eight shades whiter within an hour. While the individual results will vary depending on the severity of the staining, you will notice a marked improvement once the treatment is complete.
Zoom!® Whitening Procedure
Zoom!® whitening gel is specially designed to remove stains on the patient’s teeth. It is formulated with PH-balanced hydrogen peroxide for optimal effect.
1. Your dentist will check your teeth and gums to determine if your teeth and gums are healthy enough for bleaching.
2. They will then isolate your teeth to protect the gums and lips from the whitening solution.
3. The Zoom!® whitening gel is then applied to teeth.
4. The gel is activated by using a low-heat light that penetrates the teeth causing the hydrogen peroxide in the gel to attach itself to the stained molecules on the teeth. This weakens the stains allowing oxygen to enter the patient’s tooth enamel, effectively whitening it.
5. This 20-minute gel application process is repeated two more times, allowing the Zoom!® Whitening treatment to have the maximum effect.
6. Once the whitening procedure is complete, your dentist will administer a five-minute fluoride treatment.
Benefits of the In-House Zoom!® Tooth Whitening Procedure
Our in-house treatment is perfect for individuals who prefer to whiten their teeth quickly. With in-house whitening, you don’t have to worry about trays and gels; you can simply sit back and relax while your teeth are whitened for you!
Take Home Teeth Whitening Kits
Take-home kits are a convenient solution if you prefer the convenience of whitening your teeth at home.
1. Your dentist will take an impression of your upper and lower teeth so a customized set of trays can be created for you.
2. To whiten your teeth, you spread small amounts of whitening gel in the trays and place them on your teeth. Your dentist will advise how long you should wear the tray each day.
3. We recommend that you repeat the procedure for ten consecutive days for optimal whitening performance.
Your teeth whitening Lonsdale Quay provider knows that some patients may experience some sensitivity during the treatment. We advise pausing the procedure for one or two nights and continuing when the sensitivity has subsided.
Caring For Your Newly Whitened Teeth
Managing Tooth Sensitivity
After whitening your teeth, you may experience some tooth sensitivity within the first few days. Your teeth whitening Lonsdale Quay provider recommends using toothpaste specifically designed for sensitive teeth to alleviate any discomfort. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush may also feel more comfortable.
Avoid Richly Coloured Food and Beverages
Newly whitened teeth are more prone to staining, so it is vital to avoid richly coloured foods and beverages for at least the first 24 hours after whitening. It may be difficult to avoid these foods completely; try to rinse your mouth with water afterward and brush your teeth twice a day.
