Dental Bridges in North Vancouver

Dental bridges are commonly used to restore a missing tooth; a bridge consists of a fake tooth held on either side by two crowns.

Why Do I Need a Dental Bridge?

Misaligned teeth affect your ability to bite and chew correctly; this improper alignment can cause serious damage to the teeth, including chipping and cracking. If you lose a tooth, a dental bridge can fill the gap with a replacement tooth to prevent the surrounding teeth from shifting out of place. Dental bridges are recommended for maintaining your oral health by:

  • Preventing the surrounding teeth from moving out of place
  • Restoring your ability to chew your food properly
  • Correcting your speech and pronunciation
  • Maintaining your facial contours

Types of Dental Bridges

Three types of bridges are commonly used to restore a missing tooth.

Traditional Dental Bridge

A traditional bridge is fitted by attaching two crowns to the teeth on either side of the gap. These crowns hold a false tooth in place, filling the gap between them.

Maryland Dental Bridge

Maryland bridges commonly replace teeth at the front of the mouth. This type of bridge relies on a metal or porcelain framework to hold the false teeth in place. It is bonded to the back of the natural teeth on either side of the missing teeth with resin.

Cantilever Bridge

A cantilever bridge is similar to a traditional bridge, as it relies on a crown for support. However,  the false tooth is supported by only one crown, which makes it a good option when there is only one tooth that can serve as support.
